Enterprise Cloud Computing Leader Opens Office in China to Meet Strong Demand for Private Clouds in Asia-Pacific
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – January 5, 2011 – Eucalyptus Systems, creators of the leading independent cloud platform, today announced that it has opened a corporate office in Beijing, China. Eucalyptus China will be managed by Claude Zhou Qun, a seasoned open source and technology industry veteran who was most recently the CEO of Great OpenSource/Turbolinux in China. Mr. Zhou Qun is responsible for managing the rapid expansion of Eucalyptus in China to meet the strong and growing demand for cloud computing solutions in this region.
"Claude is a brilliant executive with a proven track record of marketing, selling and delivering professional open source solutions for the massive Chinese market," said Said Ziouani, senior vice president of Worldwide Sales at Eucalyptus Systems. "We saw a major uptick in interest in Eucalyptus in Asia last year, and our Chinese users and customers have encouraged us to open up local Eucalyptus operations. We are thrilled to add Claude to our management team as we quickly expand globally and help organizations worldwide save costs and create more effective IT systems through cloud computing and open source."
"Eucalyptus software is quite famous in technical circles in China, where it is commonly referred to as 'An Shu,' which means 'Eucalyptus tree,'" said Zhou Qun. "I have worked with many open source software products in China, and I've never been more excited than I am now to offer Eucalyptus to help Chinese businesses build affordable, modern IT infrastructure."
Private Cloud Computing Growing in Asia
China is now the world's second largest economy, and the country with the most Internet users - over 400 million. In its 2011 APAC Predictions report, market research firm IDC asserts that businesses in Asia/Pacific will need to focus on a move to cloud computing, and that Asia Pacific businesses will see an increased adoption of private cloud initiatives. As a reflection of this trend, Eucalyptus saw a sharp increase in demand from organizations in Asia for its open source private cloud software in the past year. IDC also stated that the take-up of private cloud technologies and services in medium- and large- enterprise will accelerate further in 2011 due to lingering concerns about security, reliability and performance of public cloud services.
