Leading On-Premise Infrastructure as a Service Provider Delivers Benefits of Private and Hybrid Cloud Computing to Rapidly Growing Market
HAMBURG, GERMANY – June 4, 2012 – Eucalyptus Systems, creator of the most widely deployed on-premise cloud computing platform, today announced its expansion into Germany to further the company’s sales and support initiatives across Central Europe. Paul Holt, recently appointed vice president of worldwide sales, will lead the company’s initiatives in the region which include building upon Eucalyptus’ rapidly growing footprint and driving increased support for current German customers including Plinga and PUMA.
Strict privacy laws that govern how enterprises manage and share data across regions is driving increasing adoption of on-premise Infrastructure as a Service cloud platforms in Germany and Central Europe. To meet changing market dynamics, these organizations are also demanding more flexibility and the ability to rapidly scale their IT operations. Based on these trends, total cloud computing revenue in 2012 is expected to grow 50 percent up to 5.3 billion euros. Until 2016, analysts expect growth up to 17 billion euros.*
"We needed the control, reliability and cost-savings of our own private cloud," said Thorsten Lubinski, CTO of Plinga, Europe’s leading publisher of social games. "We host games publishers from all over the world with highly dynamic infrastructure requirements, and the elasticity of cloud computing was the only way to go. We moved servers from AWS to Eucalyptus and have been extremely impressed with the reliability and scalability of the platform, and the expert service from the Eucalyptus support team."
Earlier this year, Eucalyptus announced an agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) that enables customers to more efficiently migrate workloads between their existing data centers and AWS while using the same management tools and skills across both environments. Customers can run applications in their existing datacenters that are compatible with popular Amazon Web Services such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3).
"The early demand for on-premise and hybrid cloud computing in Germany makes this region ripe for growth," said Said Ziouani, executive vice president of worldwide sales at Eucalyptus. "Enterprises are actively seeking ways to drive down costs without affecting the quality of the services provided by their IT department. Eucalyptus has proven the strength of its platform through thousands of cloud deployments, with hundreds of cloud starts in Germany alone, validating the power of on-premise clouds for European organizations."
