Eucalyptus Enterprise Edition

The Private Cloud for Data Centers

Eucalyptus Enterprise Edition (Eucalyptus EE) enables customers to implement private cloud computing using Eucalyptus, the most popular open source private cloud software, with purpose-built solutions that extend its functionality. Eucalyptus EE contains the open source core platform and a suite of products that allow Enterprises and Service Providers to implement the most portable, scalable and high performing private cloud solution available today.

Eucalyptus EE is also API compatible with Amazon Web Services™, which enables our customers to implement a true hybrid cloud computing environment that includes private and public clouds to meet IT service demand. For information on the products available within Eucalyptus EE please review the tabs below.

Built on Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus Enterprise Edition is built on Eucalyptus -- an open source software infrastructure for implementing a private cloud using an organization’s own information technology (IT) infrastructure, without modification, special-purpose hardware or reconfiguration. Eucalyptus turns data center resources such as machines, networks, and storage systems into a cloud that is controlled and customized by local IT. Eucalyptus is the only cloud architecture to support the same application programming interfaces (APIs) as public clouds, and today Eucalyptus is fully compatible with the Amazon Web Services™ cloud infrastructure.

Key Features and Functionality

  • Seamlessly manage environments with multiple hypervisors (Xen, KVM, vSphere, ESX, ESXi) under one management console
  • Enables cross-platform guest operating systems including Microsoft Windows and Linux
  • Automates image conversion between all supported hypervisors, including Amazon EC2-compatible AMIs
  • Advanced storage integration (iSCSI, SAN, NAS) enables you to easily connect and manage your existing storage systems from within the Eucalyptus cloud
  • Sophisticated user, group, and role management allows precise control of resources within a private cloud

Top Benefits

  • Transform your existing IT infrastructure into a scalable, reliable, and compatible on-premise cloud
  • Run Microsoft Windows and Linux guests in the same flexible cloud environment using a cost-saving self-service provisioning model
  • Test, develop, and deploy on your on-premise EEE cloud and smoothly transition to a public cloud or vice-versa, without any modifications
  • Quickly and easily build hybrid clouds with your VMware-based virtualization environment and other public clouds
  • Enable state-of-the-art enterprise cloud features such as scalable storage integration, monitoring, and auditing with Eucalyptus Enterprise Edition
  • Leverage the vibrant ecosystem built around Amazon AWS that deliver solutions that work seamlessly with Eucalyptus.

Hypervisor Management

Manage mixed hypervisor environments by using Eucalyptus EE’s VMware integration. Expose your existing vSphere (TM), ESX (TM) and ESXi (TM) virtualization technologies as part of your Amazon-compatible Eucalyptus cloud. With Eucalyptus’ VMware support, customers are able to homogenize the multiple hypervisor technologies that may exist within their IT infrastructure. Now data centers are able to run Xen, KVM, and VMware ESX and ESXi hypervisors within the same Eucalyptus cloud that transforms your underlying virtualized environments into a private cloud with a one-stop management console.

Direct SAN Integration

Increase IO performance of your entire cloud by using the SAN Adapter in Eucalyptus EE. This component provides functionality to connect a Eucalyptus cloud directly to a high-performance Storage Area Network (SAN). The SAN Adapter gives your cloud greater IO performance for both the Storage Controller block volumes and Walrus put/get storage operations.

User and Group Management

Control access to your cloud by using Eucalyptus EE’s robust and comprehensive user and group management. Assign fine-grained cloud capabilities to users and groups. Enterprises and service providers can use these features to provide secure and capable self-service access to compute, storage, and networking resources.

Accounting and Quota Management

Define and allocate resource quotas for your users and groups with Eucalyptus EE’s quota management features. Control resource allocation across clusters, defined by users and groups.

Analyze your cloud usage patterns by using Eucalyptus EE’s resource accounting. Compute and storage usage data is available on various formats for visualization, reporting, and analysis by business systems for both enterprises and service providers, and integration with chargeback and billing platforms.
