Eucalyptus Systems is looking to hire an experienced software engineer with background in Unix system programming.
In this position you get to hack on the back end of the first open-source cloud platform. You will be writing code for deploying virtual machines within a Linux-based distributed system and for effecting computational, storage, and network resources in the system. You will be part of a physically distributed company (only a third of developers live in Santa Barbara) with great technology, great culture, and great benefits.
The bookshelf of a successful applicant likely contains K&R and Advanced Programming in the Unix Environment. Such applicant certainly enjoys working in a fast-paced but fun environment, playing with the latest systems technologies – think virtualization platforms, software-defined networks, distributed object and block storage – and integrating with them judiciously. We expect the applicant to be organized and experienced enough to work independently while being a great communicator, comfortable with transparency of publicly open specifications, code, demos, and issue tracking.
Five or more years of experience with C or C++, POSIX API, Unix development toolchain, Linux network stack, and shell scripting are required. Knowledge of Python and Java – the other main languages used in Eucalyptus – as well as tools and libraries for KVM, Xen, VMware, and iSCSI are pluses. Those who prefer working remotely should have a track record of doing so effectively in the past.
